August 3rd is a very special day.
It’s Anne Klein’s birthday!
Anne is so much more than just our namesake—she’s a trailblazer, trendsetter, and a true supporter of women from all walks of life.
Since this day means so much to us, we thought we would provide a short recap of the exciting life of Anne Klein, from her humble beginnings to becoming the world-renowned fashion designer that she is.
Who Is Anne Klein?
Born on August 3rd, 1923 in Brooklyn, Anne Klein grew up with a passion for the fashion industry. At 15 years old, she began working for Varden Petites, where she began elevating junior clothing looks to a refined, grown-up aesthetic.
By 17 years old, she designed the first modern, sophisticated fashion line for women.
10 years later, in 1950, Anne Klein became known for her separates—a line of mix-and-match blazers, skirts, and dresses that began a major trend. By 1954, her work in the fashion industry had spread nationwide, taking home her first Mademoiselle Merit Award.
With several more awards over the ensuing years, including a Coty Award, an American Creativity Award, and even a Lord & Taylor Award for independent thinking, Anne finally established a brand under her own name, Anne Klein, in 1968. She designed a logo using her astrological sign, which became one of the most recognizable logos in the world.
Anne Klein’s Legacy Today
Today, the Anne Klein brand continues on with her mission: To champion the power of women and help them look good while doing it.
As Anne famously said: “Clothes won’t change the world. The women who wear them do.”
We celebrate Anne’s birthday by recognizing the power of her legacy, what she meant to the world of fashion, and the lasting inspiration she left on the lives of women around the world.
