Women’s Watches: Materials, Styles, & More

Women have a ton of different accessory options.

Some are solely for adding style, like a great pair of clip earrings or a  jewelry set. Others can tie an outfit togetherand provide great functionality, like a bold pair of sunglasses or another one of our favorites:  A watch.

We love all watches — leather bands, sparkly metals, and even Apple Watches dressed up with chic Apple Watch accessories.

Let’s take a look at some of our favorite Anne Klein watch collections, along with the unique history of women’s watches.

History of Women’s Watches

Watches for women have an interesting history. The traditional wristwatch was viewed by men as a feminine item, with men opting for the pocket watch variety and carrying it in their coat pockets instead.

The first wristwatches were actually designed for women back in the early 1800s when Abraham-Louis Breguet designed a watch for the Queen of Naples in 1810.

For the next 100+ years, wristwatches were strictly an item for women. Even shortly after the First World War (when men began wearing watches on their wrists), public opinion on the wristwatch was that only women should be wearing them. It wasn’t until the 1930’s that men started wearing wristwatches, and the 1950s was the decade where the wristwatch truly exploded for men.

Now, watches come in various styles to suit the tastes of nearly every woman out there. They’ve gone from an item worn by royals to a fashion accessory suitable for everyone from casual, trendy watch wearers to watch fanatics.

Women’s Watch Styles from Anne Klein

When choosing your dream timepiece, you have a ton of options. Some styles are best suited for casual settings, while others pair well with formal outfits.

Anne Klein has watch collections that give women a variety of watch choices, with different styles and features. Here are some of our favorites.

Metals

Metal band watches have a premium look to them. They tend to be more robust and can withstand damage better than other materials while resisting the urge to stretch. A metal strap will not stain and are more resilient when it comes to keeping the strap clean. Despite this, it’s important to clean your metal strap watch thoroughly about once a year.

Anne Klein’s Metal Watch collection has several color and style options, from a basic silver tone to a rose gold tint.

Leather

Leather strap watches have a softer and more natural feel on your wrist. They tend to be more comfortable than other materials and will naturally stretch to give you the perfect fit. They’re also a bit more suited to formal outfits, matching the leather strap to other aspects of your outfit, such as a leather belt.

Compared to metal straps, leatherdoes tend to wear out quicker. There are ways to take care of these straps to prolong their life, but you’ll eventually need to replace them at some point.

The Anne Klein Leather Watch collection contains different leather strap styles, from classic to patterned, and even some vegan leather options as well.
